EMDR Intensive Therapy: A Faster Path to Healing
Most of us are accustomed to the idea that therapy takes place in weekly, hour-long sessions. This schedule can certainly work—but it isn’t the only way. Sometimes, doing deeper or more focused work in a short span can lead to swifter transformations with fewer hurdles along the way. That’s where EMDR intensives come in.
• What is an EMDR Intensive?
An EMDR intensive is a condensed format for therapy—multiple hours per day over a series of consecutive days. Instead of weeks or months of spreading out trauma processing, you can accomplish significant work in one weekend or across a few dedicated days.
• Why Would I Choose an Intensive?
- Efficiency and Focus: Longer sessions allow us to tackle more material at once, freeing you from the stop-and-start nature of a weekly schedule.
- Profound Progress in Fewer Days: Activating and resolving difficult memories in the same period can reduce feeling “stuck” or reactivated between sessions.
- Reduced Disruptions: Life events, schedule changes, or crises can derail weekly therapy. In an intensive, you get a lot of work done before new stressors arise.
- Faster Results: When you concentrate on memory reconsolidation, the transformation can slash months from the therapy timeline.
• Scheduling and Logistics
I offer Friday-Sunday formats (9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., then 1:00 p.m.–5:30 p.m.) with flexibility for half-days or alternate blocks. If you’re coming from out of town, I’m happy to discuss ways to make your trip and lodging arrangements as stress-free as possible.

• Fees and Payment Arrangements
Intensive therapy is not covered by insurance. Rates span $150–$275 per hour ($900–$1650 per six-hour day). A refundable $300 deposit (via PayPal or Venmo) is required to secure your dates. Final payment is due by cash, credit card, PayPal, or Venmo at the end of each day.
• My Approach
My practice is trauma-informed, attachment-focused, and grounded in social justice. Within a psychodynamic framework, I draw from EMDR, PC (Progressive Counting), Flash, Ego State Work, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. We can integrate humor and joy even in challenging work—healing can be profound and meaningful without darkness.
• Is an Intensive Right for You?
Although EMDR intensives offer many benefits, this format isn’t for everyone. Some people thrive with shorter sessions focusing on building coping skills, stabilizing, or gradually learning new strategies. We’ll work together to determine if you’re a good candidate for this accelerated approach and, if so, tailor it to your specific needs.
